Do toenails grow back down?

my pinky toenail got ripped up by a metal bed rail. so like the whole nail and go up except for what is rooted in.. will the nail just grow back to the toe, or does a new one have to come in? its still there it looks fine?Do toenails grow back down?
The detached nail will not re-attach but a new nail will grow back. if the old nail is still attached at the proximal nail fold ( base of the nail ) the new nail will grow in under the old nail and push the old nail off. Generally if a nail is torn off it grows back normal. If the result of a crush injury then the new nail may be deformed. Expect 3-4mo to regrow 5 th toe nail. Having a nail injury like this will increase your risk of fungal infection in the nail so if it grows back thick and discolored have it looked at.Do toenails grow back down?
A new toe nail will grow in and replace the old one. It should be completely unnoticeable.
They usually grow back but it does take quite a bit of time.
